Not sure what to do with the space above your bed? Read this!

Stuck for how to fill that blank expanse of wall above your bed? Look no further... scroll the gallery for five ideas.

My top tips:

  • Remember the rule of thirds - if you're hanging anything above the bed (art, wall hanging, a shelf) it should span about two-thirds the width of the bedhead

  • Similarly with paneling - come one-third of the way in, and leave the rest open if you like an asymmetric look

  • Hang your pieces 20-25cm above the top of the bedhead

  • Space artwork 5-10cm apart

  • If you're hanging pendants above your side table, leave 45-60cm between the table and the bottom of the pendant

  • Use a narrow picture ledge so you don't bash your head
